Critique to dependent modernization and economic-cultural dimension in Brazil
the role of the State in Furtadian development challenge
Keywords:
Dependent modernization; Brazilian economic and cultural development; furtadian challengeAbstract
The main objective of this article is to reflect on the economic dependence model adopted by the Brazilian State and its impacts in terms of cultural dependence. The research problem, which has as a parameter the hypothetical-deductive method, is premised on the Furtadian challenge, which questions the existence of supposed “phases of development” through which countries pass through. It is questioned whether the development would not have its origin in more structural conditions, given the reality of the periphery as a consumer of technology produced by developed countries. It will focus, from an economic point of view, on the issue of production specialization and the international division of labor, which has roots in the phenomenon of domination, to then realize the need for a developmental political choice, which was done in Brazil only from the 1930s onwards, as well as the impact of cultural domination derived from the incomplete modification of production structures.
