Abstract

This work searchs for the sources of the main environmental problems in the city of São Paulo, by means of a critical analysis of urban plans developed throughout the XXth Century. In the distinct periods, proposals, which some way or another have affected São Paulo urban environmental quality, are analyzed. The goal of this work is to understand how urban environmental issues had been treated and specified in the various urban plans by exposing decisions turned out to affect the quality of life in the city of São Paulo.
