Architecture as a Narrative, Based on Real Facts

This article reviews the Santo Onofre Urbanization project (2010) designed by the architects Antonio Carlos Barossi and Milton Nakamura from the Barossi Nakamura Arquitetos office. The uniqueness of the project stems from its attention to preexistence - including self-constructed buildings - and from how by delineating architecture the city is designed, that’s to say, its attention to the shared and collective spaces. To that end, it follows the argumentations found in, "Pós-Produção: como a arte reprograma o mundo contemporâneo" (Bourriaud, 2009), "A invenção do cotidiano: Artes de Fazer" (de Certeau, 1994), "JUNTOS: Os rituais, os prazeres e a política da cooperação" (Sennett, 2012). This project allows us recognize the commitment “to the difficult whole" pointed out as a desirable contemporary architecture feature in "Complexidade e Contradição na Arquitetura"(Venturi, 1966) because it is established as a kind of architecture in which the authors, attentive to the existing reality, propose materiality as the real-fact based narrative. The topics proposed by the journal’s editorial address, “Complexidade, Experiência, Narrativa, Práticas, Responsabilidade Solidária, Urbanidade, Utopia”.Downloads
