THE VULNERABILITY OF THE YANOMAMI DURING THE PANDEMIC: THE MANAGEMENT OF INDIGENOUS BODIES IN THE BOLSONARO GOVERNMENT

Abstract

This article investigates the institutional response to the humanitarian crisis experienced by the Yanomami people during the pandemic. Considering the historical vulnerability of this group, caused by a stigmatizing hegemonic perspective, the investigation began with the following question: how did the Federal Government act on its responsibility to mitigate the vulnerability of the Yanomami people in the context of the pandemic? A methodology of an essentially bibliographic nature was used, with documentary analysis. The theoretical contribution takes a decolonial perspective, highlighting the importance of a critical field in the construction of Indigenous People’ rights and the role of the Judiciary during this period. The results indicate that, deepening the vulner ability resulting from the stigmas produced by coloniality, the respective government exercised a violent power dynamic. The profusion of an epistemological reconstruction proves to be beneficial in the struggle for the implementation of the precepts of citizenship for Indigenous Peoples, guaranteeing their self-determination and respect for their existence.
