Information is no longer a scarce resource and has become overabundant, and as data storage and processing technologies become more and more available as time goes by, organizations face new challenges regarding the extraction of value and meaning from the frequently unstructured and shapeless mass of data it generates. This article offers an approach to improve the stream of information naturally generated on the course of doing business of an organization. In order to do so, we present the case of the development of an economic performance report based on accounting data from a enterprise resource planning (ERP) system as the single source of truth (SSOT) regarding financial information, and on Power BI™, application and trademark of Microsoft, as a tool to extract, transform and load (ETL), data bonding and interactive data visualization. The resulting performance report is dynamic and interactive, allowing the exploration of the accounting data regarding economic performance on a plethora of dimensions, levels of aggregation, segmentation, and filters.Downloads
