Abstract

The modern churches, those built after the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council (1962-1965) had to adapt to the renewed liturgy. The biggest change that has occurred is not in the aesthetic aspect or in the architectural form, but has to do with the way the Christian community is placed in space and its relationship with the so-called celebration poles. The poles and the community are disposed of in view of the participated and not merely assisted liturgy. The bipartition of the space between the nave and the presbytery is questioned in the sense of attributing to the clergy a space that is not exclusive but concerns the community that participates even through the ministries developed in the celebration.The project of the Espirito Santo do Cerrado Church, by Lina Bo Bardi, has important elements both from the community point of view as well as from the point of view of symbolic rescue. The circular shape of the spaces breaks the hierarchy and establishes a healthy principle in promoting the life of the community that is later reflected in the way of expressing one's own faith and celebrate it.
