The professional trajectory of the architect Mayumi Watanabe de Souza Lima was dedicated to revealing and pointing out alternatives to the power relations inherent in the production and use of schools, especially among pedagogical projects supported by authoritarian and disciplinary practices. Of the experiments carried out to transform these relationships, the construction of the João Kopke School, in 1977, stands out a project, discontinued by the authoritarian practice of its directors and which would be re-signified in 2015, during the movement of school occupation by students against its closure by the government state. Placed in dialogue, the experiences indicate ways for the transformation of public schools in the post-pandemic period of Covid-19 with the enhancement of its role as a place of education for freedom.
