The sixth Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, published in 2021, signals a strong alert for the climate issue in the world, in the context of multiplication of natural disasters that have spread around the world. The complexity of this process increasingly threatened and affected by socio-environmental risks and their damage, being the floods resulting from extreme events, exposing a reality in which poor populations are the most affected in cities. This text addresses the threats to urban sustainability, a dimension of sustainable development, which represents the possibility of ensuring socio-political changes that do not compromise the ecological and social systems in which communities are sustained. The complexity of this process of transformation of an urban scenario increasingly not only threatened but also directly affected by risks and socio-environmental hazards is increasingly evident.
