Measurement of Courtesy Stigma: Systematic Literature Review
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aimed to conduct a literature review regarding instruments used to measure the stigma of courtesy, in the databases related to the field of investigation (PsychNET, PubMed, Virtual Health Library Brazil – Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde [BVS] Brasil, Capes Publications Portal, Scientific Electronic Library Online [SciELO], and Electronic Journals in Psychology – Periódicos Eletrônicos em Psicologia [PePSIC]), using the descriptors courtesy stigma, affiliate stigma and associative stigma. Five hundred and sixty-four articles were retrieved, and, after the exclusion criteria were evaluated, ten were selected. Positive correlations were noted between courtesy stigma and depression, anxiety, caregiver burden, burnout, awareness of public devaluation, and awareness of stigma. Quality of life, social support, self-esteem, quality of care, and social desirability presented negative correlations with the construct studied.
