This work will analyze the production of tourist activity in the slum of Santa Marta, in Botafogo (Rio de Janeiro/RJ), which received the first experience of Pacifying Police Units (UPPs), new focus of the public security policy of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. In the case study, we will present an analysis of the development of tourism in the Santa Marta slum after the deployment of the UPP. We will reflect on possible strategies of planning, linked to tourism and public security policies and their effects in this territory.
