The notion of affordance is commonly used in the area of Environmental Psychology already for some time, but only more recently happened to be embedded in other areas of knowledge and technology among these ones, and more specifically, the design. This article seeks to examine the issue from the viewpoint of Urban Design and its implications in the design of street furniture elements that are intended for public urban areas downtown. From initial concept established by Gibson in Environmental Psychology and subsequently adapted by Norman to the Design of technological artifacts attempted to establish relationships that could define theoretical-methodological principles to urban design. Using the affordances, this paper discuses the role of urban furniture designer and its intervention in urban space.Downloads
