Abstract

Large Urban Projects (GPU), also known as megaprojects or major urban interventions, are an increasingly common phenomenon in cities of the contemporary world. The GPU promote multiple dimensions and impacts in their discussion also applies to regional projects, as in case of Ompetro and Conleste. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to discuss the possible outcomes from the implementation of large projects, analyzing the influence of oil exploration in the Fluminense North (Ompetro region), and the influence of Comperj Fluminense East (Conleste region). Besides, to delineate a brief history of these regions, assessing how and why they were created, still analyzing the concept of region, endogenous development and the “war of posts”. It is necessary to evaluate the impacts created by the implementation of major projects in order to promote the development of the region in which they are installed.
