Abstract

This piece of work has its major point on the study of the constructions made in iron, settled in the city of Belém, in the period of 1890 the 1910, focusing the issues of preservation and conservation of these monuments. The initial premise is that these elements had played representative role, in the physical plan, related to the arrival of the modern thought in Belém. As the proper nature of modernity, they had been imported in form of fragments, bringing the innovative idea of modernity. As we were reaching for what role these buildings have played in the urban scenery, a physical and historical survey took place, broken of a script that carried through the analysis. It consisted of the historical study, the descriptions of the style of the building and of the constructive materials, the main interventions and the study of the urban environment. This analysis of each building had as objective: to subsidize projects of restoration, defining some lines of direction for the conservation of these monuments, that will be presented in the conclusion of the work.
