Urban Setting of the Itu Village in the Context of Sugar Production

This article intends to analyze the urban setting of Itu’s village through the eighteenth century to the nineteenth, based on the study of population dynamics of the village, evidenced in the growth of the urban area. The analysis method is based on documents founded in the Public Archives of São Paulo, “Maços de População” (population census data), that since the government Morgado de Mateus of São Paulo’s captaincy (1765-1775), were elaborated in the context of adoption of a political settlement for the captaincy. For this analysis were chosen the population census of 1796, 1807, 1818 and 1830.Downloads
