Abstract

This work analyzes the play The Day on Which a Man Dies – A Noh Occidental Play, by Tennessee Williams. The play's off-off-Broadway expedients are analyzed, as well as those adapted from traditional Japanese theatres to the US political, social and cultural context, in addition to the performance works of the Gutai group. It is concluded to be a dramaturgy that privileges performance and physicality. The play is thus identified as a modern tragedy.
