The Journal Of Psychology: Theory and Practice [JPTP] was first published in 1999 as a vehicle for scientific dissemination with the aim of publishing unpublished works in Psychology (CAPES – 70700001) and its interfaces with related areas. It is linked to the Postgraduate Program in Developmental Disorders and the Psychology course, both part of the Center for Biological and Health Sciences (CCBS) at the Mackenzie Presbyterian University.

The journal uses a continuous flow publishing model, with four-monthly volumes, and obtained an A2 rating in the 2023 evaluation by the Brazilian Journal Evaluation System QUALIS Periódicos from the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).

The journal is organized into five sections: "Psychological Assessment," "Human Development," "Social Psychology and Population Health," "Clinical Psychology," and "Psychology and Education." Therefore, the following types of articles are accepted: a) original articles based on empirical data; b) systematic and scoping review articles; c) case reports; d) brief research reports; and e) research protocols. The publication of theoretical articles with critical analyses of current topics will be by invitation only.

The section on PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT aims to disseminate works that demonstrate psychometric studies and/or the application of instruments in the process of psychological assessment in different contexts of psychological practice and other professions whose work in interfaces with psychology. At this time, the Psychological Assessment section is prioritizing manuscripts that investigate, in an integrated manner, the various steps in the adaptation or development of instruments, including various types of validity evidence. Therefore, articles that only perform translation and adaptation of instruments, with or without evidence of content validity, are not being accepted.

The section on HUMAN DEVELOPMENT aims to disseminate studies on human development and/or its disorders, with an emphasis on the interdependence of biological, psychological, and environmental elements in processes of change, based on different theories and evidence-based practices. It also includes studies on development based on experimental models in animals.

The section on SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY AND POPULATION HEALTH aims to disseminate studies in the field of social psychology and health, whose theoretical assumptions and methodological strategies are oriented by a conception of the individual as inseparable from society and history. Priority will be given to epidemiological studies addressing mental health inequalities. Other mental health issues, such as emotional aspects and well-being, as well as work, institutions, and violence, may fit into this section.

The section on CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY aims to disseminate works focused on mental health at both the individual and collective levels, employing established or developing clinical devices. The works can focus on diagnostic and prognostic aspects, psychotherapeutic approaches in different modalities, and different evidence-based theories and practices in psychology, also including studies in interface with other areas of health. Randomized or non-randomized clinical trials are recommended for this section. We recommend registering clinical trials in public dissemination sources that ensure study transparency, such as the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry (http://www.ensaiosclinicos.gov.br ) or the National Institutes of Health Clinical Trials (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov ).

The section on PSYCHOLOGY AND EDUCATION aims to disseminate studies in psychology at the interface with education based on knowledge produced from different theories and evidence-based practices. The studies can encompass public policies in education, teacher training, learning, and inclusive practices.
