Estigma Internalizado e Autoestima: uma Revisão Sistemática da Literatura

Resumo

Estudos têm sugerido que uma das principais consequências do estigma internalizado é a diminuição da autoestima. Diante disso, este estudo objetivou analisar a produção científica acerca da relação entre estigma internalizado e autoestima. As buscas foram realizadas nas bases de dados Psycinfo, Scielo e Lilacs, em que se utilizaram os descritores self-stigma e internalized stigma cruzados com o termo self-esteem. A amostra foi composta por 19 estudos que preencheram os critérios de inclusão. Os resultados apontaram uma carência de publicações a respeito do tema e uma predominância de estudos utilizando amostras de indivíduos com transtorno mental. Ainda, a maioria dos estudos encontrou uma relação negativa entre estigma internalizado e autoestima, apesar de não ser possível identificar uma relação de causalidade entre as variáveis. Conclui-se que a autoestima é uma importante variável a ser trabalhada na diminuição do estigma internalizado. Ressalta-se também a necessidade de explorar amostras diversificadas para expandir a compreensão sobre o tema.
