Abstract

The general objective of this article is to characterize the new language phenomenon known as meme and specific objectives such as its interpretation, construction of meaning and its impact on the analysis of intertextuality in communication. Defining its origin, establishing a relationship with textual genres, its intertextuality, and its applicability in the classroom as a means of communication. The methodology used was a bibliographic survey on the topic to understand how the main scholars approach this topic. The article presents the introduction of what has been discussed, the definition and origin of the meme and theoretical framework (Koch, 2019), (Dawkins, 1979), (Porto, 2018) among others cited. About textual genre, intertextuality, media, and the use of meme in the classroom using the authors Schifman (2014), Marcuschi (2003), Bakhtin, (2003).
