This article addresses the issue of narratives and metaphors in teacher education. Narratives produced by a collaborative study group of four English language teachers in a public university of São Paulo-Brazil are collected and analyzed. The professors in the study group met twice a month, for eight months, to discuss and share their lived professional experiences. The theoretical background is the one that considers the discourse as the privileged locus of metaphors, Cameron and Deignan (2006), Steen et al. (2010), Musolff and Zinken (2009), among others. The rounding off of the article takes account of the role of the metaphor in fostering the construction of applicable knowledge to those involved.
