The Female Verb
Heritage and memory in the writings of Dora Alcântara

Inspired by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan), which in March 2020, launched a campaign on its social media to honor the pioneering spirit of women who are a reference for safeguarding cultural heritage in Brazil. With the hashtag #elasfazempatrimoniocultural the desire to bring out the texts of one of these pioneers was born. Architect, whose personal life is mixed with the birth of the historical preservation field in Brazil. This article has as main objective, in addition to the collaboration in the construction of the cultural heritage theoretical field in Brazil, to bring to light some technical texts written by Dora Alcântara during the time she was at the service of Iphan/RJ. The architect from Rio de Janeiro, already occupies the place deserved with academic and professional recognition in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Now it is up to us to introduce to new audiences the great technical capacity of this woman, currently recognized as a reference in the study of tiles of Portuguese origin, but which in her texts shows that cultural heritage in Brazil is very well defined by the feminine verb.
