Brazilian Promenade

This article is a modified chapter of the doctoral thesis, by the same author, entitled "The place in the work of Oscar Niemeyer" (2009). It intends to explore the issue of the architectural promenade theme, the walk between the constructed work and its immediate context, its place. A reference work in Brazil and abroad, the object analyzed is the marquee of the Ibirapuera Park (1954), an anchor work of the architect Oscar Niemeyer. The relations established between the canopy, its buildings and the park are the themes of research developed in the text, which brings to light again the discussion about the spirit of the place, developed by Christian Norberg Schulz, since the marquee itself becomes a Place, a territory open to coexistence. From an analysis of both the work itself and its predecessors, it is intended to contribute to an even deeper understanding of Niemeyer's work, as well as to emphasize its contemporaneity.Downloads
