Routes and Urban Networks: a Morphological Approach to the Urban Space in Arab Cities
Keywords:
Arab urbanism, Production of Space, Arab city, MorphologyAbstract
This paper intends to develop a critical analysis of the urban space from Arab-Islamic cities by understanding their spatial structures according to their own definitions and symbolic language.
We aim to produce, not just a morphological and social description that is able to distance itself from the spatially crystallized models that often represent these spaces, but to promote a comprehension of these urban structures capable to embrace the urban and social processes that these cities are home.
The central idea is to identify the historical, social and cultural mechanisms that have managed to inscribe themselves in the urban space in a way to contribute to the formation of the existing spatial structure.
