Cities without Permanence and Urban enclaves: Anhaguera Bandeirantes (Km 72), Itupeva, SP, Brazil and Sun Belt, Houston, USA

Around the globe a new type of urban occupation is on the increase, characterized by urban dispersion - disperse urbanization or the diffuse city - resulting from of a number of factors including the technological revolution, favorable global economic conditions during the past 20 years, liberal urban policies and the redefinition of the citizens in a recast society. Even though there are economic benefits to the localities involved, the low density of these occupations, the expansive cost to the State to provide infrastructure in extended distances, and the urbanistic disarticulation resulting from this juxtaposition of enclaves; reveals the weight of the private sector in the conformation and expansion of this dispersed urban occupation. This tends to multiply in a poorly organized way, guided only by real estate interests, with no relation to the existing cities, limiting the opportunities for social exchange.Downloads
