Abstract

The processes of change and the variable use of discourse markers derived from cognitive verbs were investigated, combining the North-American functionalist approach with the Theory of Variation and Change. A complex vari-able was proposed and tested to measure the setting of the sociolinguistic inter-view in order to contribute to the most recent studies on stylistic variation. Speech samples from Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state, Brazil, were examined and the results indicated that the discourse markers are more frequent in inter-views which are more similar to conversations.

Carla Regina Martins Valle, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina

Concluiu Licenciatura em Letras com habilitação em Português e Italiano (1999) pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina e mestrado (2001), doutorado (2014) e pós-doutorado (2018) em Linguística pelo Programa de Pós-graduação em Linguística da UFSC. Tem realizado pesquisas nas áreas de Sociolinguística/Teoria da Variação e Mudança e de Funcionalismo/Gramaticalização. É professora da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, no Departamento de Língua e Literatura Vernáculas, atuando na área de Sociolinguística e Dialetologia. Seus interesses estão voltados a pesquisas sobre marcadores discursivos, variação estilística, identidade linguística, gramaticalização e ensino de língua portuguesa.

Edair Maria Görski, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina

Atuo no Curso de Pós-graduação em Linguística da UFSC como professora voluntária (aposentada) nas linhas de pesquisa Contato, variação e mudança linguística e Cognição e uso, e sou integrante do Núcleo Interinstitucional de Pesquisa VARSUL (Variação Linguística no Sul do Brasil) e participante do Projeto PHPB-SC (Para a História do Português Brasileiro de Santa Catarina).

Na perspectiva variacionista, tenho trabalhado com questões teórico-metodológicas que envolvem a relação entre variação, estilo e identidade, elaborando, aplicando e avaliando instrumentos para análise de fenômenos de variação socioestilística no Português do Brasil (PB). Considero como locus de análise não só a comunidade de fala, mas também comunidades de prática, com foco na construção de persona. Na perspectiva da mudança, meu campo de interesse tem sido a gramaticalização de fenômenos linguísticos de nível sintático-semântico-pragmático. Na convergência entre as duas perspectivas de análise, trabalho com uma abordagem sociofuncionalista, com atenção à noção de domínio funcional e sua relação com a variável linguística e com a definição de envelopes de variação. Em relação ao ensino de língua portuguesa, trabalho com a noção de gramática do uso, considerando a multifuncionalidade e a variação/mudança linguística.
