To be an historian of sciences is to be able to build chronologies and causal links (the latter in fact is what distinguishes the historian from the historiographer, who only tells stories, even though a narrative is an intrinsic explanatory structure), moreover, to be an historian of sciences is to be able to build representations and explanations.
