Fantastic narratives that portray the uncanny interaction between human protagonists and objects endowed with a desire for revenge can evoke a sense of unease and threat, as they propose the rupture of the idea of submission and passivity of the objects. When the actions of fantastic objects emerge in the short stories like The Venus of Ille by Prosper Mérimée, Chac Mool by Carlos Fuentes, and Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung, it becomes possible to analyze both narrative mechanisms that transgress reality and the presence of multifaceted social and cultural themes. These themes are noticeable in the references to Mexico's mythological past, the intricacies of 19th-century French society, and South Korean social inequalities.
