Refigurações de Iara na literatura fantástica brasileira contemporânea

This study analyzes three cases in what the folkloric character Iara – the Brazilian mermaid – is refigurated in contemporary fantastic narratives produced in Brazil. According to Reis (2018), the refiguration is a narrative reelaboration of a certain character, an adaptation to another fictional universe. Therefore, first the text discusses a little bit about the character’s figuration based in what folkloric scholars gathered about her in the popular culture; then, it exams their refigurations in a tale, a chapter of a novel and two volums in a series.
