Manoel Bispo Corrêa (1945-) is a visual artist, teacher, and poet from Pará. He has been living in Amapá since 1954. Bispo wrote Cristais das horas (1978), Mental real (1986), Canto dos meu cantares (1990), Intátil (2002), Amostra grátis (2004), and Palavras de festim (2007). For this research, we are interested in his last work, which explores what we call Amazonian Concretism, characterized by the manipulation of the form and content of words, with the aim of developing an aesthetic linked to local aspects, using images of water and forests. Based on various formalizations (Flusser, 2010) provided by new media (Manovich, 2005a) and understanding the prehistoric influence that Funkhouser (2007) establishes between concrete poetry and digital poetry, we seek to present a product, carrying out Palavras de festim’s transcoding. We were inspired by the transcoding observed upon Artéria 8 website, released in 2003 by Omar Khouri and Fabio Fon. This volume of the experimental magazine appropriated poems by Arnaldo Antunes, Décio Pignatari, Erthos Albino de Souza, Julio Plaza, among others. In this artistic research exercise (Coessens, 2014), we will archive Bispo’s work on a website (whose domain is still in the testing phase), using three different programming languages (HTML, Javascript, and CSS), in partnership with the technical staff of Lilas research group from the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Amapá (Ifap). Three cyberpoems are ready so far.
