Remediation and digital literature for children and young adults.

Abstract

In this article, I present an analysis of contemporary digital literature works aimed at children and young adults based on the theory of remediation by Richard Grusin and Jay David Bolter. In the first section I discuss possible advantages and limitations of this theory when applied to the digital literature for children and young adults studies. Subsequently, I argue that the main remediation logics – imitation, enhancement, remodeling, and absorption – are presented in different formats of digital works addressed to this audience. Finally, I emphasize that the concept of remediation is valuable for understanding the predominant characteristics of these works, provided that its categories are not regarded as fixed or inflexible.

Edgar Roberto Kirchof, ULBRA

Possui graduação em Letras (Português/Alemão) pela Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (1995), graduação em Teologia pela Escola Superior de Teologia (1998), mestrado em Ciências da Comunicação pela Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (1997) e doutorado em Lingüística e Letras pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (2001), tendo realizado um Pós-Doutorado em Estética e Biossemiótica na Universidade de Kassel, Alemanha (2005). É bolsista produtividade pelo CNPq e editor da Revista Textura. Atualmente é professor adjunto da Universidade Luterana do Brasil, atuando, como docente e pesquisador, no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação (PPGEDU) e como docente no Curso de Letras. Seus principais temas de pesquisa são as relações entre a Literatura, a Cultura Digital e a questão das Diferenças, com foco na Literatura infanto-juvenil.
