Towards a view of language use detached from guidelines.
Keywords:
language use, language policy, social imaginary, linguistic structures, newspaper headlinesAbstract
This paper goes to a sample of language use in Brazilian Portuguese, while discussing ‘efficiency’, without resorting to what is considered as “correct”, and having as prime “excellence” the evidence of a felicitous co-participation among speakers in each event. It evaluates not only formal structures but also illocutionary and interactional structures, through the leans of the shared social imaginary and linguistic policies. It examines newspaper headlines from the past 20 years, a choice which is defined by the availability, in each case, of complete ‘texts’ in reduced extension. The exam allows for the consideration of great relevance and efficiency of this evaluation of language use detached from guidelines.
