Abstract

In this text, we discuss Paleography, considering several theoretical perspectives. It starts with a reflection about its object of study; we also consider historical facts to discuss future Digital Paleography studies. In the last section, we describe problems we are facing regarding reading and recognizing handwriting letters and words. Thus, our aim is to present possible positions to be adopted and activities to be developed within the scope of Digital Humanities. Manuscripts from The Hague Royal Archive’s West Indian Company collection
will be used as an example.
