From the entrails of memory and clichés in Almodóvar’s erotic revolution
Abstract
In the films of the Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar there is a conviction that the maintenance of a society requires some unacceptable operation. This is what the 1981 soap opera Fogo nas entranhas intends to show. A way of life that feeds on the vital energy, the repressed sex of its characters and promotes the creation of events that are not located in memory, a type of violence which traditionally is not in the field of female experience: the sexual violence of women against men.
Keywords: Almodóvar. Soap opera. Memory. Repression. Eroticism.
