The pattern [VN]N constitutes, in the context of word composition, one of the most productive, next to the patterns [NprepN]N, [NA]N and [NN]N (RIBEIRO; RIO-TORTO, 2016). However, this productivity cannot be attested in archaic portuguese (13th-16th centuries), according to results obtained by Santos (2009). Becomes compelling, therefore, to seek to discover why and when this composition pattern becomes productive. As part of this objective, it is proposed in this paper to describe and analyze compounds [VN]N in Vocabulario portuguez, e latino (1712-1728), by Rafael Bluteau. From the data obtained, some reflections on this pattern of word composition will be presented.
