Each people uses some popular expressions in their daily speech, that is, each people has their own idiomatic expressions in the language they speak and communicate within the same linguistic group. Idiomatic expressions are integral parts of the popular lexicon that exist in any language. In this article we seek to understand idiomatic expressions from the perspective of linguistic culturality; we also seek to present some popular lexicons expressed in the Tetun language (the national language of East Timor), both in colloquial speech and in cultural activities such as in the fetosá-umane meeting; (ii) we present some possible interpretations of each idiomatic expression in order to understand its totality of meanings when presented in a specific context.
