La Condición Underachievement em Superdotación: Definición y Características

La baja performance académica en individuos superdotados constituye un fenómeno complejo observado y relatado por profesores, especialistas e investigadores de la área hace más de tres décadas, aunque no se tenga una definición consensual que agregue los varios elementos que componen esa realidad aparentemente antagónica. La definición de baja performance, underachievement en inglés, enfatiza la discrepancia entre el potencial revelado (habilidad) y la performance (realización) particularmente en el contexto escolar. Es objetivo central de este trabajo, la presentación de contribuciones teóricas y empíricas que fundamentan el estudio del fenómeno de la superdotación en la perspectiva de las poblaciones especiales, nombradamente la de superdotados underachievers. Inicialmente son destacados algunos elementos relacionados a la definición de superdotación y enlazados a las características del individuo superdotado, para luego presentar las definiciones de underachievement, caracterizar el superdotado underachiever y delinear algunos factores asociados presentes en esta condición.
