Psychosocial Support to Relatives of Military Personel Engaged in Peacekeeping Operations

Abstract

This work has been developed with the  the families of the military personel from the brazilian Military Police- 2nd platoon, which at the time were engaged in peacekeeping in East Timor. It aimed to provide psychosocial support to the families, during the absence of their relatives . It has included diagnosis of psychological or psychosomatic conditions, levels of stress and changing of familiar roles and functions. It has also promoted meetings, group roleplaying , application of instruments to detect the level of stress and individual assistance. The results show high level of stress in the early phase of the military duties. The authors purpose that this experiment supports the necessity of clinging on the primary and secondary prevention aspects of risk-bearing populations.
