As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The text is unpublished and has not been published in any other media.
  • The text deals with subject related to Psychological Evaluation, Human Development, Social Psychology and Population's Health, Clinical Psychology or Psychology and Education.
  • There is no explicit indication of authorship in the text file.
  • The text follows the formal guidelines available in the Authors Guidelines.

The types of article accepted by the journal are:

  • Original research articles based on limited empirical data: up to 25 pages, which should include all parts of the article, including the references, tables, and figures. Follow the APA structure: Introduction (do not subdivide into topics); Method (if necessary, identify subsections: participants, instruments or materials, and procedures); Results; Discussion (including the conclusion), and References.
  • Review articles (systematic or scoping): up to 25 pages. Follow the APA structure: Introduction (do not subdivide into topics); Method (the criteria for inclusion of materials in the review, procedures for collecting documentary data, and analysis procedures); Results; Discussion (including the conclusion), and References.
  • Clinical case reports: up to 15 pages. Follow the APA structure: Introduction (do not subdivide into topics); Method (clinical characterization of the case, assessment and intervention procedures); Results; Discussion of the case (including conclusion), and References.
  • Brief reports on research data: up to 5 pages. Follow the structure: Introduction (do not subdivide into topics); Method (identify subsections: participants, instruments or materials, and procedures); Results; Discussion (including the conclusion), and References.
  • Research protocols: up to 5 pages, reporting planned or ongoing research projects, especially in the early stages of the study. Research protocols evaluating aspects of the design, conduct, or reporting of previously published randomized studies will also be accepted. Follow the structure: Introduction, Methods and Analysis, Preliminary Results (optional), and Study Limitations.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

ARTICLE

The article must be submitted in a doc. or docx. file format and according to the Layout. Texts submitted in any other format will be rejected. Texts that contain any information indicating the authors' identity will be rejected.

Mandatory elements:

  • Initial page with: Title in Portuguese, English, and Spanish (maximum of 20 words).
  • Abbreviated title in Portuguese, English, and Spanish (maximum of 8 words).
  • An abstract and 5 keywords in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, corresponding to DECS or PUBMED terms.

Formatting:

Page Count: It starts from the Introduction and ends at the end of the references.

Abstract/Resumo/Resumen: Justified alignment, size 12 Times New Roman font, and 1.5 line spacing. The abstracts should not exceed 250 words in all three languages. The text should provide a concise but accurate presentation of the article's content, covering the main items in the order they appear in the text. Five keywords are required in each language of the abstract, separated by periods, without a period at the end of the last word.

Main Text: Justified alignment, size 12 Times New Roman font, and 1.5 line spacing. The text must not exceed number of pages specified for the article type. Author names should not appear. It is not necessary to start a new page for each topic. All pages should be numbered. Indent only the first line of each paragraph by 1.25 cm.

Figures, Tables, and Charts: Figures and tables should be inserted throughout the text and numbered progressively as they appear in the article. The descriptive text for each table should not repeat its content. The original files of the tables and figures should also be uploaded to the OJS in an editable format and/or high resolution (300 dpi) as additional files to be used if necessary in the final editing of the accepted article.

References: Justified alignment, size 12 Times New Roman font, and 1.5 line spacing, and a hanging indent of 0.75 on the first line. Follow the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) – 7th edition. References should be listed in alphabetical order. Works by the same single author are arranged by year of publication (starting with the oldest). For articles, the DOI should be included at the end of the reference.

COVER PAGE

The cover sheet must be sent in a doc. or docx. file and according to Layout.

Mandatory elements:

  • The names of the authors, the ORCID of each one and their institutional affiliations (University, Department and Postgraduate Program).
  • Institucional affiliations' city, state and country. 
  • Indication of the author of correspondence and its contact information (e-mail and address).
  • Description of authors' contribution: brief text about how each author contributed to the paper. 
  • Eventual information about financial support and acknowledgments.
  • Academic Product: State if the article is a result of thesis and dissertation. Do not include this information in the body of the article.  
  • Conflict of Interest Statement. If none exist, state "nothing to declare".

Conflict of Interest

Any intellectual, economic, political, or emotional variable that may interfere with an impartial evaluation of the article is considered a conflict of interest.

Examples of situations with conflicts of interest include, but are not limited to:

For reviewers:

  • Being affiliated with the same institution as any of the authors of the manuscript.
  • Having a personal or professional relationship with any of the authors of the manuscript.

For authors:

  • Benefiting from the outcome of the manuscript's evaluation.
  • Receiving financial support from a pharmaceutical company or other agency that potentially has an interest in the results of the study.

Any financial support received and/or acknowledgments should be included in the designated field of the cover page. Include acknowledgments to funding agencies, both as part of the project that generated the manuscript and for scholarships supporting the study that led to the manuscript.

Copyright and Originality Statement

A digitally signed letter, in a digital file, signed by all authors and addressed to the Editor, authorizing the editorial process. The authors must declare the originality of the submitted manuscript's data, as well as their awareness that their manuscript will be subjected to plagiarism detection software and may be rejected if misconduct is identified.

Translation Agreement

If the article is submitted in Portuguese or Spanish, a letter of commitment to the translation must be sent, signed by all authors. The translation must be carried out by a professional or company indicated by the journal. The translation's costs will be incurred exclusively by the authors , who undertake to do so from the submission of the letter authorizing us to start the editorial process.

Review Agreement

If the article is submitted in English, a letter of commitment to the review must be sent, signed by all authors. The review must be carried out by a professional or company indicated by the journal. The review's costs will be incurred exclusively by the authors , who undertake to do so from the submission of the letter authorizing us to start the editorial process.

Information about the English version:

  1. Since The Journal Of Psychology: Theory and Practice adopts bilingual publication of its articles. When an article is submitted in Portuguese, the authors are responsible for submitting its English version to the editor within a maximum period of 30 days after the final acceptance.
  2. If the article is initially submitted in English, the authors are responsible for submitting the revised English version to the editor within a maximum period of 30 days after the final acceptance.
  3. If one of the authors has an English-language university as their main affiliation, a review by one of our designated professionals or companies will not be required, provided that the author in question submits a signed letter taking responsibility for the quality of the English language.
  4. The services must be performed by one of the specialized professionals or companies designated by the journal, ensuring the linguistic quality of the version and its compatibility with the Portuguese article, when applicable.
  5. The costs of translation/revision will be solely borne by the authors who commit to this in the letter authorizing the start of the editorial process.
  6. If the approved English version's quality is deemed inadequate or there is a lack of compatibility with the approved Portuguese article, further modifications will be requested before publication.

Indication of reviewers
Authors should provide the names of five potential reviewers (and their contact email) who are knowledgeable about the subject matter of the article. These names may not necessarily be chosen by the editorial board, as their selection as reviewers will be determined based on their relevance and expertise in the field.

Open Science Compliance Form

Model form indicating whether the article has been deposited in a preprint and/or has data in a repository.

 

ETHICS COMMITTEE

It is essential that, when the manuscript includes research conducted involving human subjects, the author submits a copy of the Ethics Committee approval as a digital file. Even clinical case articles and articles reporting professional experience should include this approval.
