Abstract

Considering the reality brought by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, studies have been finding children as vulnerable to behavioral and emotional problems (such as inattention, hyperactivity, depression, and anxiety). We sought to evaluate the frequency of emotional/behavioral
problems among Brazilian children on social isolation during Covid-19 pandemic and differences on scores and clinical odds for behavioral problems considering the variables of age and gender. The sample was composed of 277 parents/legal guardians of children between seven and 11 years old. The instruments used were the Child Behavior Checklist and the Sociodemographic Form. The scales on which problems were more frequent were: total problems, anxious/depressed, and thought problems. Boys presented odds of clinical scores on anxiety/depression, social problems, thought problems and higher scores on the internalizing scale. Older children have higher odds of clinical scores on somatic complains and lower odds of rulebreaking behaviors. Our results showed the possible behavioral/emotional consequences in Brazilian children in social isolation, especially boys.
