São Luiz of Paraitinga: Post-disaster Resilience of a National Patrimony City
Keywords:
São Luiz do Paraitinga, Heritage, Reconstruction.Abstract
The city of São Luiz do Paraitinga, a historical and cultural reference of the Paraíba Valley of São Paulo, was ruined by a flood in 2010, as a result of the overflowing Paraitinga river that surrounds the city. This cataclysm reached referential buildings and the historical nucleus listed (from 1982) by Condephaat, causing the partial or total destruction of diverse goods. In post-disaster actions, one of the highlights was the reconstruction of the São Luiz de Tolosa Church in 2013, one of the main references in the memory of its inhabitants. From an approach encompassing cultural heritage, collective memory, legal milestones before the flood, disaster description, post-flood emergencies were highlighted, in which community involvement in synergy with the actions of the civil defense and patrimonial organisms, guaranteed a process of strong resilience, which was the mark of the reconstruction of the city.Downloads
