Entertainment literature and female protagonism
the reinvention of the classic myth in the contemporary moment

Entertainment literature can be present in different literary genres, such as chick lit, new adult and fantasy romance, for example. Thus, in this article, we seek to analyze how the female character Annabeth Chase, present in the fantasy novel The Sea of Monsters, by Rick Riordan, evokes and reinvents the myth of Ulysses from a perspective that praises female protagonism and gives new meaning to the journey presented in the classic myth. Furthermore, it is unique to understand the study of entertainment literature as a narrative that can recover the fabulation capacity of fictional literary creation, which seems to face a crisis in the 21st century, called post-narrative.
