Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to analyze the intertextual relationships between the classical myth of Cupid and Psyche by Apuleius, the fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast” by Madame de Beaumont, and the animated cinematic adaptation by Disney, Beauty and the Beast (1991). It is observed how these narratives share universal themes, but also reflect the concerns and values of their respective eras. By examining these literary works together, the aim is to understand how myths and fairy tales are constantly reimagined and reinvented over time. The analysis reveals how these stories share common themes and motifs, while also highlighting their cultural and temporal distinctions.
