Introducción a la Neuroanatomía y Neurofisiología

Este artículo cubre conceptos básicos en neuroanatomía y neurofisiología relacionados con el tema del neurodesarrollo y los trastornos asociados. Inicialmente, el artículo presenta las células fundamentales del sistema nervioso, es decir, las neuronas y la neuroglía. Se diferencian los tipos de neuroglía según su función, mientras que se presentan las estructuras de las neuronas (cuerpo celular, dendrita, axón y terminales axónicos). Se discuten los procesos electroquímicos de la transmisión neuronal, desde el cambio en el potencial de membrana en reposo hasta la generación del potencial de acción y la eventual propagación sináptica de la señal. También se presentan las sinapsis y los principales neurotransmisores del sistema nervioso. El sistema nervioso como un todo se divide y analiza, incluidas sus porciones central y periférica y, más específicamente, sus subdivisiones en cerebro, cerebelo y tronco encefálico y sistemas nerviosos somático, autónomo/visceral y entérico, respectivamente. La médula espinal y sus nervios medulares y craneales también se muestran como parte del sistema nervioso periférico, al igual que las principales vías ascendentes (lemnisco dorsal-medial y espinotalámico lateral) y descendentes (corticoespinal lateral) y sus funciones sensoriales y motoras. Se construyó una tabla para resumir las funciones de los doce nervios craneales. Una segunda tabla ayuda a ilustrar las diferentes funciones del sistema nervioso simpático (lucha o huida) y parasimpático (descanso y digestión), subdivisiones del sistema nervioso autónomo. Finalmente, se discute brevemente el concepto de neuroplasticidad, considerando su importancia para el neurodesarrollo.
