Abstract

The literature regarding the definition and description of scientific concepts is vast, and includes scientific articles, books and dissertations. However, there seems to be a shortage of scientific publications that approach the main scientific concepts didactically and with examples. This theoretical article aims to clarify the meaning of the main concepts used in the elaboration of scientific research. Data collection was carried out in books by reference authors on scientific methodology. The subjects selected to be addressed were chosen by the authors of the article based on their experiences as researchers, as well as on the concepts most frequently presented by authors of reference books in the area of methodology. The concepts and definitions were made available according to the stages of construction of a scientific research, from the types of studies to statistical analysis, and we started with the definition of comprehensive concepts to then define the derived concepts, in order to favor the reader's understanding. We hope that the article will contribute to the clarification of fundamental concepts for the construction of scientific research.
