Abstract

The aim of this study is to verify the alignment of the competitive priorities and trade-offs in operations strategy between food processing companies and their supplier & equipment manufacturing companies. Based on research of exploratory and descriptive nature, the data was collected from managers of the operation area which were obtained 77 answers related to equipment manufacturing, and 55 answers related to food processing companies. The data treated statistically revealed that: a) in scope of equipment supply chain, the factor "quality" was the main competitive priority aligned among customers, food processing and supplier & equipment manufacturing; b) in scope of using equipment manufacturing, there were evidences of trade-off between the variables "stock reduction" and "quickly delivery". These results allowed to conclude that: a) "quality" is used to link corporative strategy with business unity, and to create an entrance barrier to new competitors; b) the use of trade-off as a tool to explore the maximum productive capacity of the equipments.

Key-words: trade offs, trade ons, strategic alignment, competitive priorities, mechanic capital goods.
