DEVELOPMENT OF COMPETENCES FOR ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH STRATEGIC ALLIANCES

Abstract

Some companies have been complementing its competence portfolio through strategic alliances. However, there are companies that establish strategic alliances but they do not figure out that during the partnership relationship, they share knowledge that can drive to the formation of competences. The objective of this paper was to verify if strategic alliances influence the development of competences. An exploratory research was carried. An IT company settled in São Paulo that possesses as strategy the formation of alliances to assist its specific customers’ needs was chosen. Eight in-depth interviews with managers directly linked to alliances were made. The results showed that there is absorption of some types of knowledge and there are specific ways to absorb them, as explained in the paper.
