Abstract

There exists only partial agreement in the scientific literature about how to define values. Consequently, it is difficult to compare research results from different investigations, and the reader does not know whether and to what extent he may generalize the respective findings. Hence there is a need for a theoretically sound and empirically tested approach which may serve as a frame of reference for comparing and integrating research results. This article starts from the assumption that Schwartz (1992) theory about the content and structure of values can serve this function.
