Abstract

The poetry of Brazilian poet Cruz e Sousa is well-known for the symbolist traits it bears. Less remarked, however, are the “vulcanized voices” that equally pervade it. Deeply wrought by an imagination kindled by the element fire, his work unveils conflicts and tensions that enliven and complicate it. The aim of this article is to track the igneous components of Cruz e Sousa’s poetry by means of the analysis of some selected poems.
