Cuba em tempo de nostalgia: memória, utopia e a mercantilização do passado

Resumo

O texto analisa a reconfiguração do turismo em Cuba desde os anos 1990, quando a ilha, em crise pós-soviética, aposta no setor como motor econômico. Argumenta que a oferta turística atual mercantiliza o passado ao combinar exotismo caribenho, ícones da Revolução e um “vintage do capitalismo”, alimentando uma memória nostálgica com traços utópicos. Discute como esse arranjo tensiona ideais socialistas e lógicas de mercado, evidenciando o “caráter janusiano” do turismo. À luz de debates teóricos (Boorstin, Augé, MacCannell, Urry), diferencia o caso cubano do Red Tourism e do pós-socialismo do Leste Europeu, enfatizando sua condição de socialismo ainda vigente.

Silvana Hooper, Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC/Minas)

Possui graduação em História pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, mestrado em Sociologia da Cultura pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais e doutorado em Literatura Comparada/Estudos Literários - UFMG - FALE. Atua nas áreas teóricas de Pensamento Social Brasileiro, História das Ideias, História da Cultura, Historiografia, e representações sociais. Tematicamente, trabalha com cultura, cultura brasileira, nação, cidade, representações, comunicação mediática, tecnologias da informação. Tem formação internacional e trabalhou em universidades nos EUA (Harvard, UMASS e Vanderbilt). É professora do Programa de Pós-graduação em Comunicação Social, na Linha de Pesquisa: Interações Mediáticas, na PUCMinas.
